Georgetown University Mission Statement
Personal Development for Community Service Stipends
Seek personal development while expanding your impact on your community.
GU Retirees will award up to three $700 stipends for the 2025-26 academic year to its members to support their individual growth and development in activities for the good of the community. This program is in addition to the existing and ongoing research grants program.
The dual purposes of the stipends are to:
- Assist retired Georgetown faculty and staff to contribute to the welfare of the community, locally or globally, and to serve the public interest.
- Enable the grant recipient to further his or her own personal growth and development in the course of meeting the community welfare purpose.
Use of Funds
Funds may be used to pay costs such as registering for or participating in training courses, workshops, conferences, and retreats; acquisition of materials necessary for personal development; and travel to training sites. Requests for other types of support not listed here will also be considered. Financial compensation for the applicant is not funded, nor are direct donations to charitable causes.

Eligibility
Eligible applicants are all retired faculty and staff who were formerly Georgetown University employees and are active members of GU Retirees. Applicants are invited to ask the GU Retirees Secretary if in doubt about their eligibility at guretirees-grants@georgetown.edu.
The application is easy—you will be asked to describe the activity, how it will impact you and the community, and how you will use the funds.
Applications are evaluated by the GU Retirees Grants Committee and approved by the GU Retirees Executive Committee. Applications are due January 10, 2026, using the form available here and sent to the secretary of GU retirees at guretirees-grants@georgetown.edu. Results will be announced in mid-February.
Research Grants
Funded by the Office of the Provost, the GU Retirees will award up to seven $700 grants to retired faculty and staff who are active members of the association.
- The dual purposes of the grants are to facilitate the continuing intellectual interests and research activities of retired Georgetown Faculty and Staff and to contribute to the creation of knowledge that is of value to society.
Grant funds may be used to pay for research materials, travel to collect data and present research results at conferences, research assistance, and publication costs. Grants may be made for research that is likely to contribute to knowledge that is significant to the applicant’s field of study, that is clear about how the funding will be used, and whose status suggests outcomes are likely to be achieved within a reasonable time frame.
Applications are closed for 2025.
